The Four C's of Diamonds

by
We at Bonaci Fine Jewelers take pride in not only providing our customers with the most beautiful and exquisite selection of fine jewelry, but also in offering the tools to make that selection an exciting and long lasting one!

If you are in the market to purchase a diamond, we want to be of service to you. Knowing how to make a well-informed decision will make your process not only fascinating but successful.
Below are the “4 C’s” to consider. Cut, Color, Clarity and Carat. These are the factual highlights you should be aware of before making your purchase with us. These guidelines are here to help you make the most informed decision in selecting the best diamond for your occasion.
**Please know that our staff would be happy to personally speak with you in more depth about any of these important factors.

Cut - This refers to the skill with which the master diamond cutter facets the diamond from its original crystal. The precision with which the cutter performs this process determines how much light is reflected back out of the top of the diamond. That amount of that light does influence the value of the diamond.

Color – Based on a color scale created by The Gemological Institute of America, the most typical diamonds range in color from D (which has virtually no trace of color) to Z (light yellow.) In this range, colorless is the most valuable.

Depending on other elements present during the growth of a diamond, it can naturally be blue, green, orange, pink, red or purple. The more saturated these colored diamonds are, the more rare and therefore valuable they become.

Clarity- Refers to the number and location of inclusions found in and blemishes on the diamond. Many factors cause these to occur. The Gemological Institute of America grades these imperfections on a scale from F (Flawless) to I3 (Imperfect.) Flawless diamonds are the most valuable. Clarity is determined while looking at the diamond under 10X magnification.

Carat- Refers to the weight of the diamond. 1.00ct is how a diamond weight is indicated. The greater the carat weight of a diamond, the more valuable it is.

Every single diamond is unique and has a “personality” of its own. After reviewing these “4 C’s” consider what is most important to you. Then our knowledgeable staff will happily guide you towards what will work for your occasion.
